Now THIS is an 'Angel' novel. It is a nasty tale of Serpenteine demons (snake demons who work as telemarketers), Trembler demons, Wolfram and Hart and good old-fashioned greed. Angel, Cordelia and Doyle help the seemingly friendly Serpentene clan find out why Wolfram and Hart are having them menaced by the Earthquake causing Tremblers.
Who is manipulating whom here? Meanwhile Angel is plagued by flashbacks to when he and Darla played in the ruins of a city devastated by an earthquake, there he encountered trapped young woman named Maria and tormented her in a horrific and deeply unsettling manner. Those flashbacks are truly creepy and show just how big a bastard Angel was back in the day.
Meanwhile a Trembler demon gets a pickaxe in the brain and 'sees the light' and a pink plastic hairdryer helps save the day. But does this book have a happy ending? Not really...
Highly recommended but please, GET THE BOOKS OUT OF SEASON 1 ALREADY!!!!!!!!!
