Crossings

Author: - Mel Odom

Category: - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Reviewer: - Callisto Kennedy

The 'Buffy' books come in four varieties. There are the densely plotted excellent ones like: Halloween Rain, How I Survived My Summer Vacation Vol 1, Tales of the Slayer Vol 1, The Lost Slayer 1-4, The Gatekeeper Trilogy, Immortal, The Evil That Men Do, The Book of Fours and Tempted Champions.

Then there are the lesser books like this one which while an okay read don't give you the tingle that a really good Buffy book or a really good Buffy episode do.

Then there are the crap books and finally the ones which don't interest you at all like Sweet Sixteen, The Journals of Rupert Giles Vol 1 or Oz: Into the Wild.

'Crossings' is a lesser book, it centres on deluded computer game players, demons, a demon hunter from the south, Dawn sulking, a TV medium, a demon dimension and Xander getting abducted into said demon dimension. It's all fight, fight, fight but with no funny quips.

Set in the late 5th season but before 'Tough Love' it is full of ominous foreshadowing about Tara worrying about Willow's magic and Buffy obsessing over death and Dawn. Poor Tara, to think her last words on earth were: "Your shirt." The writer tries to make Dawn sympathetic but fails; she is just too annoying and whiny.

Crossings is a rollicking adventure tale free of the doom and gloom of season 6. It will tide you over until the upcoming 'The Wisdom of War' featuring the long awaited Faith vs Buffy vs Watchers Council smackdown we've been wanting since season 3.
