Elena Gilbert is the queen of her school in Fell's Church. She has everything in her life but excitement. Then one day she wakes up with the feeling that something bad is going to happen. That very day new boy Stefan arrives from Italy. Elena wants him but he doesn't want her.
The more she tries to make him hers, the more events spiral out of control until Elena learns just who and what Stefan really is. This is a well written start to the series. We met the brooding moping Stefan and his wicked brother Damon and we learn in flashback, how back in the 15th century a beautiful young woman named Katherine changed their lives and turned them into bitter enemies.
In the present day as Elena falls for Stefan and he struggles to resist her, strange deaths and mysterious attacks rock Fell's Church. Two vampire brothers, 1 human woman - it can only lead to trouble.
Teen angst melodrama, recommended.
