To mark the 10th anniversary of DS9 comes this book which sends the DS9 relaunch in tantalising new directions.
As the battered Defiant crew returns to DS9 they discover that the station is under lockdown by Cardassian warships but that turns out to be the least of their worries. An alien conspiracy with terrifying links to Trill is at work on Bajor and as the crew fight to preserve the planet, nobody will be left unchanged.
A good book that wraps up some plots and starts off new ones. The O'Briens return and Keiko has made a life changing decision. Shar loses everything he loves. Vaughn has an encounter with someone from the episode 'Far beyond the stars'. Prynn whines a lot. Ezri discovers an appalling secret about the symbionts the Trill revere. Ro makes a decision. Quark discovers a new purpose. Rom and Leeta are having a baby. Two old friends return and at the height of a crisis, a very special baby is born.
The best thing about DS9 was the characters and the relaunch is allowing them to grow and change in ways we never could have foreseen. By the book's end Bajor has changed and all the pieces are in place to be explored in the upcoming 'Worlds of Deep space Nine' saga.
Finally DS9 is being recognised for what it was; a groundbreaking and best ever Trek series.
