The Revenge Of The Hound: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery

Author: - Michael Hardwick

An atmospheric and deeply satisfying tale about the famous detective and his loyal sidekick.

A derelict is savaged by a hound leading people to speculate that the infamous Hound of the Baskervilles has returned. But this is only the start of a complex tale that involves the theft of Oliver Cromwell’s skeleton, the murder of a ship’s steward, a compromising letter written by the new King of England, a troubled nobleman and a secret society with deadly intent.

A wonderful tale that has an intriguing mystery, a warm take on the decades old friendship between Holmes and Watson and an all pervading sense of the ending of an era - Queen Victoria is dead, her son is due to be crowned, Watson is to be married for the 3rd time and Holmes is pondering how scientific advances will end his career.

This novel was obviously written with great love, affection and respect for Conan Doyle’s creations. The best part of the novel is the depiction of the Holmes/Watson friendship and it showcases Holmes’ arrogance, Watson’s patience and how hunting for hellhounds in the dead of night and attempted strangulation is an everyday occurrence between them.

A wonderful tale.

Highly recommended.
