DAW anthologies are tricky things. Either they are very, very good or they are very, very bad. This is a good one. Various werewolves, witches, dead things, zombies and demons - things once considered evil - are in fact good.

Notable stories:

LYCANTHROPE SUMMER
In the tradition of 'American Gothic' and 'Invasion' - this is the tale of a town sheriff who is not what he seems. He is in fact a werewolf and it is his duty to stand guard against an ancient foe. Very good.

THE SALEM TRIAL
A lawyer comes to Salem and learns she is a descendant of a victim of the Salem Witch Trials. An okay tale.

THE DEN MOTHER
The head of a battered woman's shelter is a werewolf and she is determined to protect the latest arrival. Very good.

BROTHERS IN THE FLESH
Another 'Death Mage' tale that follows on from the stories in 'Villains Victorious', 'Assassin Fantastic' and 'Apprentice Fantastic'. Coll, the ex-cutter and arch foe of the Death Mages has to help a victim of the dreadful trade. Also we learn what became of the evil villain of the first 'Death Mage' tale from 'Villains Victorious'. Very good, these stories of necromancy in Renaissance Italy should have a novel of their own.

SHE DWELLETH IN THE COLD OF THE MOON
A zombie woman learns some unpleasant truths. Okay.

SCELERATUS
A vampire avenges himself on the Inquisition after they torture his mortal lover to death. Good.

THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
A boy becomes a demon's unwilling apprentice. Creepy and good.

REDEEMED
A demon welcomes exorcism. Good.

Highly recommended.
