Poison Sleep

The 2nd in the Marla Mason urban fantasy series.

Marla is back in her home of Felport, but trouble isn't far away. A renegade slow assassin is targeting her. A rival sorcerer wants her dead. Those are things she's sued to in her job as chief sorcerer of Felport. But now real trouble is brewing. An inmate has escaped the Blackwing Institute for Criminally Insane Sorcerers. The inmate is a damaged troubled psychic who can reweave reality.

Now Marla and her friend and associates have to stop the tremendously powerful but insane reweaver who is unleashing chaos across the city as she remakes dreams and reality. Also a nightmare figure of the reweavers has gained a life of its own and is planning to take over the city and destroy its creator. It'll take all of Marla's magic and cunning to stop this threat.

A battle royale with ever shifting loyalties is played out across the city and across various realities. Can the wicked witch of Felport save the day?

This is an excellent follow up to 'Blood Engines'. It's a compulsively readable twisty tale of horror and magic. Marla isn't likeable but as a ruthless, pragmatic 'heroine', she's pretty fascinating.

I'll be buying the 3rd book 'Dead Reign'.

Highest recommendation.
