Sookie is now in the vampire world too deep to ever get out. That's why she is recruited to attend a vampire summit. The vampire queen of Louisiana has had her power base significantly weakened by Hurricane Katrina and is now vulnerable to enemies. The summit is a chance to make new allies and rebuild her powerbase. Sookie is a part of that.
Also Sookie has to deal with the three men in her life. Quinn the weretiger who is her current honey, the vampire Eric who is sort of her ex and the vampire Bill her hated ex-lover. Quinn's jealous, Eric's jealous and Bill is sort of apologising for his sins. It's all too much for Sookie. But when some vampires die at the summit, Sookie has to help investigate putting her man problems on hold for a while. But when the anti-vampire group the Fellowship Of The Sun stage a deadly attack on the summit, Sookie realises she wants out of the dark side world.
A good addition to the southern-fried vampire slice of life saga. Sookie broods, Sookie thinks about her small town life, Sookie deals with Bill's angry new girlfriend, Sookie deals with her room-mate and broods some more on the fact her brother married a trashy werepanther. This is not gothic vampire fiction, it's an ongoing tale of a small town girl from the American Deep South who happens to be telepathic and live alongside vampires, fairies, witches and shapeshifters. As well as vampires, fairies, witches and shapeshifters, it is revealed that Sookie's world now involves extra-dimensional beings. What's next? Aliens?
This is an engrossing book and I look forward to book 8: 'From Dead To Worse' which will have to deal with Sookie's ongoing lovelife as well as the fall out from the devastation wrecked in this book. Which should be good, just as long as aliens don't show up.
