Moral Dilemmas

As a long time Star Trek fan, I am interested in the 'reality' of the idea. One area that is of great interest to me is the area of the Prime Directive. This is supposed to be a mainstay of the Federation, but yet it seems to be thrown aside when captains want to.
The directive is stated as follows:
As the right of each sentient species to live in accordance with its normal evolution is considered sacred, no Star Fleet personnel may interfere with the healthy development of alien life and culture.
Such interference includes the introduction of superior knowledge, strength or technology to a world whose society is incapable of handling such advantages wisely.
Star Fleet personnel may not violate this Prime Directive, even to save their lives and/or their ship, unless they are acting to right an earlier violation or an accidental contamination of said culture.
This directive takes precedence over and all other considerations, and carries with it the highest moral obligation.

Can We Crash Here - Can you crash land on an inhabited world?
Dogs Of War - Can you avert genocide
Act Of War - Was Sheridan Correct ?
Destroy The Borg - Would you destroy the Borg ?
Kcolip - Can you watch a planet under attack ?
