Shadowcat - Fan Mail 2005

These are letters, comments etc from readers. Good or bad, they are welcome, but flames are not. Funny thing, the more abusive the letter, the less likely that the writer will have the guts to sign it. For those, if you are looking for a fight, go else where because I will not waste my time.

Anything in Italics is my own comment.

I was enjoying your review of lost until you started moaning about John Lockes flashbacks. I think Locke is the second best character on the show and love all his stuff so I think you shud be a bit less harsh on him. I mean he has bosy parts and his legs in his lifetime which must be hard but hes not grumpy about it he gets on with it.
thanks odin
Hi Odin
Don't forget, a review is someone's opinion. You may agree, and you may not. By the way, I was not the reviewer but I did pass this on to her.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the site
= = = = =
Hi,
Thanks for my review, I may have seemed harsh but didn't mean to be. I totally agree with everyone having an opinion. I just have a small grudge against critics of shows that take time and effort to make, and LOST has used a lot of both. With me being an unknown writer I just took a minor offence at the comment on a show I really enjoy.
Thanks again
Odin
What can I say? I know a lot of professional writers (and amateur writers - which I would count myself among) and one thing I know is that you have to develop a thick skin. No matter how much hard work you put in, it is a definite that at least one person will not like your efforts. (Different genre, but a good friend of mine slept thru Lord Of The Rings). The person who did this review has an extensive background and qualifications in literature, and does a lot of writing, and loves the show (she ordered the DVD box set on the basis of reading the review of the show - before she had even see any of it).
By the way time + effort does not automatically = good, examples which spring to mind are Alexander and Pearl Harbour.
Anyway, if everyone always agreed on everything, life would be very dull.
Keep at the writing, and hopefully you won't be an unknown writer for much longer.

As I have not actually seen the movie I may be way off base, but as I was surfing the internet I found your site and read through a few reviews (great stuff btw) and this one caught my attention. There IS a real incident that bears similarity to the events depicted in the film, although not entirely congruent with the film, it does seem to loosely follow an event that happened in August 1955, on a farm between the towns of Kelly and Hopkinsville, Kentucky, USA.
Billy Ray Taylor and the 11 members of the Sutton family claim that on the evening of August 21, 1955, their home was under siege by creatures that fit the common description for aliens known as "Greys". Several times Taylor and the eldest Sutton (Lucky) opened fire on the aliens, but caused no visible physical harm to the creatures. The police were summoned, but were only able to locate a "luminescent" patch from where one creature had been standing. After the police left, the creatures returned. The older two men again fired upon the creatures. The rest of the evening was spent with the men "fending off" the creatures, who were last seen around 5:15 AM, shortly before sunrise.
A series of investigations were run by the police and psychological/medical professionals. The Sutton family were all found to be sane, sincere-having never profited from the their story, and free from the influence of drugs.
I thought your readers would like to know that although the movie itself is entirely fictional, it is possible that the film makers were influenced by documented events.
*information on the event taken from the book; "Mysteries of the Unknown: The UFO Phenomenon" printed by Time-Life Books, Copyright 1987
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Chris
Thanks for that. As far as I know the movie is 100% fiction and not based any actual incident. However I believe the makes did look at reported cases. I don't know if they were aware of this one or not, but I had heard of it myself.
Glad you liked the site.

Hey I saw that you were wondering about getting a copy of the original film, and I'm the guy youre looking for. I am seriously the only person who has an original VHS version called UFO abduction, legacy home video/ axiom films. It is 90 minutes long, written and directed by Dean Alioto. It was printed in 1990, and was never released in theatres or to the public to buy. Dean Alioto then sold the movie to the UPN network who then edited the film, removing most of the film and adding quite a bit of new footage. Then the UPN network aired the film in 1997 or 1998, under the name Alien Abduction Incident in Lake County. Scaring to death anyone who saw it including me. I was 17 at the time and freaked out. Years later I went on a quest to find a copy of the film, I now have on DVD Both versions, and the only true original on VHS. You can ask director Dean Alioto himself...(even he doesnt have one) any questions write me back I consider myself the athority on this subject.
Thanks, Jack
Wow, that sounds great. It also explains something about the history of the tape.

Hiya
I totally agree with your reviews... for me, the anita blake series ended after book 8. After this its all just sex sex sex, which actually gets really boring after a while! and how many new powers does she have to gain?! Especially the latest book, which I actually had to struggle to keep reading in the hope that there might be some storyline somewhere...
Probably will keep reading them, just to see where it goes.
If you havent checked out her merry gentry books then I would recommend them. Just hoping they wont follow the same downward path!
Kana
Hah, you'll have to check out MERRY GENTRY #1: A KISS OF SHADOWS, #2: A CARESS OF TWILIGHT, and #3: A SEDUCED BY MOONLIGHT, so far they seem to be OK

Message: On your page, u state that the mother's name is never mentioned in the movie. It is. In the first scene with the children and mother and grandmother, the mother threatens to leave if the grandmother is cruel to her children. The grandmothter come back "Leave now, Corrine, do u think i care?" I dont believe the cam is on the grandmother when she says that.
Thanks for that, but with several hunderd film reviews, could you narrow it down a bit

Message: Saw your write up, however the first time I saw the film, it had no credits, just a series of Photos of the missing persons and a request to contact a Toll Free number if anyone knew the whereabouts of any of the shown persons. The credits showing Alien #1 was only seen on the second time I saw it, nearly a year later..
Q1. Does anyone know how to buy it...? if not why not.... etc
Q2. The ‘acting’ was very good, what other films have they been in...?
Q3. The effects seemed pretty realistic. Who is claiming all the fame for this, where’s all the web sites and stuff... It appears that even though this ‘film’ was very well made there is no hype to follow. No money making machine behind it all... Why not...
Can you help with any of these questions if not sorry to bother... Thanks
First off, it's a movie, nothing more.
Q1 - It is very difficult to buy, but so what. It took many years before "Annie Get Your Gun" was released.
Q2 - I recognised several of the actors from other movies, and I'm sure you can get the details on the Internet Movie Database.
Q3 - Good question, but what happened to the people behind "Blair Witch Project"?
I'm starting to think that my web site is the main one for this movie, and I may have to expand on this.
