April Fool's Day (2008)

Reviewer - Rox Pebble

An in-name only remake of the 1986 cult classic. They've remade 'The Omen' and 'Halloween' and now 'April Fool's Day'. What is with Hollywood's obsession with remaking (usually very badly) perfectly good horror movies?

A snotty rich girl throws an April 1st party and sets up a 'prank' on a rival socialite named Milan. The 'prank' results in a roofied Milan falling to her death off a balcony. A year passes and now those involved in the prank are dying. Someone wants revenge for Milan's death. The only people who really suffer are the viewers.

Where to start with where this piece o'crud goes wrong? The 'plot' takes 21 minutes to get going. Yes 21 minutes in a film that's approx 87 minutes long. The acting is atrocious. The ending harks back to the original's ending but with a twist that pays 'homage' to the original film's famous lost ending that was cut before release and has never been seen.

The original had good music, decent acting, characters who had character, a mystery and a decent twist. This 'remake' is a dire piece of crud that comes across like a rejected Halloween script for 'The O.C'. It's awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful.

Stick with the original and hope that someday it'll get a special edition dvd release with the lost ending.

Recommended.
